Partnership and S-Corp Filing Deadline is March 15

A tax preparer notes the deadline to file corporate and partnership returns

The deadline for submitting timely filed calendar year 1065 Partnership and 1120-S Corporation tax returns and extensions is March 15th. Returns and extensions will be considered timely filed if they are postmarked by March 15th or electronically filed by midnight on March 15th. To ensure that all transmissions are considered timely filed, please have all returns and extensions submitted to TaxSlayer Pro no later than 11:59 PM your local time on March 15th. We advise finalizing and transmitting any 1065 or 1120-S returns or extensions well before the midnight deadline.

If you are filing an extension (Form 7004) for a Partnership or S-Corporation, the form can be found in the tax return in the Miscellaneous Menu. The automatic extension extends the deadline for filing the return six months. It does not extend the payment deadline. To include an electronic payment with the extension, fill out the Form 7004 Electronic Payment Information in the Electronic Extension E-File Menu in the return.

Rejected Partnership and 1120-S Corporation returns can be corrected and re-transmitted within 10 days of the due date and will still be considered timely filed. Rejected returns must be transmitted to TaxSlayer Pro by 11:59 PM your local time on March 25th.

Rejected Partnership and 1120-S Corporation extensions can be corrected and re-transmitted within 5 days of the due date and will still be considered timely filed. Rejected extensions must be transmitted to TaxSlayer Pro by 11:59 PM your local time on March 20th.

States may or may not conform to these federal filing deadlines. Check the state instructions for each entity for information on state filing due dates.

We highly recommend running a business returns not accepted report, a business state returns not accepted report and a business electronic extensions not accepted report before the filing deadline.

To run and print these reports, from the main menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:

4 – Business
9 – Electronic Filing Menu
3 – Print Reports
5 – Returns Not Accepted

1 – Returns Not Accepted Report
3 – State Returns Not Accepted Report
5 – Electronic Extensions Not Accepted Report

Before submitting any business returns or extensions, please make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest Federal and State Business Updates.
