Amending A Business Return

The only business entity with a separate amended return form is the Form 1120 (Corporation).  For all other entities, the corrected return data will be entered directly on the original form.  Before amending any business return, make sure that you have a copy of the original return for your file.

From the Main Menu of the Business Tax Return select:
  • Heading Information
  • Other Categories or Other Information
  • Select 'YES' for Amended Return - You will be prompted to enter in a description of the changes, if required
  • Exit and make any necessary changes in the return
  • When you print the return, there should be an 'X' in the Amended Return Box



Amending the 1120:

From the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1120) select:
  • Miscellaneous
  • 1120X- Amended Return
  • Form 1120X Menu
  • Select the Amended Return Year - 20XX, and select 'OK'
  • Select Original Column, and select 'OK'
  • Select Part II- Explanation of Changes - Enter a description
    of the changes that you are making to the original return
  • Exit Form 1120X
  • Make any necessary changes to the return
  • Miscellaneous
  • 1120X- Amended Return
  • Form 1120X Menu
  • Select the Amended Return Year - 20XX, and select 'OK'
  • Select Corrected Column, and select 'OK'
  • Exit to Form 1120X Menu
  • View/Print Form 1120X
File this form with the applicable Internal Revenue Service Center where the corporation filed its original return.
