October 15 deadline nears for tax returns with extensions

The time has come! The October 15 deadline nears for many American taxpayers who received an extension to file tax returns that were due April 15.

All returns should be transmitted before midnight in your local time zone.

TaxSlayer recommends filing as early as possible to make sure all returns are received on time. TaxSlayer Customer Support will extend its normal hours until 8 p.m. on October 15.

For individual returns on extension that were filed and rejected by the October 15 deadline, the IRS allows five days from the deadline to retransmit returns electronically and be considered filed on time.

The October 15 deadline also applies to bankruptcy estate returns with filing extensions. These 1041 returns should also be transmitted before midnight in your local time zone. Business returns such as these that were rejected and retransmitted electronically have 10 days from the date a return is rejected to be considered filed on time.

Don’t miss the deadline! You have until October 15 to file returns on extension with TaxSlayer.
