Live Processing of Tax Returns

The Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting LIVE 2017 tax returns on Monday, January 29, 2018.

TaxSlayer Pro anticipates that it will begin accepting live returns at some point during the week of January 8, and those returns will be held by TaxSlayer until they can be sent to the IRS. Any returns received prior to when TaxSlayer Pro starts accepting live returns are considered test returns and will be deleted from our transmission servers.

Before transmitting live returns, you must download and install a Federal Individual Update that will be forthcoming from TaxSlayer Pro, and you will receive further instructions regarding this update in both the Message Center and on this Blog. Once this Federal Individual Update is released you must apply the update to each tax return that was prepared prior to release of the update. To apply the update, enter into each tax return. If the return contains a state return, the state return must be updated as well. You will need to go back into the state return before exiting the tax return. You will need to perform these steps on ALL tax returns you have prepared prior to installing the update.

Please be advised that any return you transmit after TaxSlayer starts accepting returns will be a LIVE tax return and will be processed. Due to MeF (Modernized e-File), once you transmit a return, the return CANNOT be deleted from the TaxSlayer Pro transmission servers.

Prior to the official start of e-file, TaxSlayer Pro will participate in the IRS HUB testing program. The dates for HUB testing will be announced shortly and will be posted on this Blog. During HUB testing, we will be sending batches of tax returns to the IRS. You may begin receiving acknowledgements for some of your returns once HUB testing commences. However, the IRS will not begin to release refunds until after the official start of e-file (January 29, 2018).
